DC’s blog – 15 May 2018
Welcome to our next blog reflecting the updated brand and strategy launched earlier today.
Steve Ball, Ian MacKenzie
District Commissioners, Wiltshire North
In this blog:
- St George’s Day
- What’s going on?
Today sees the launch of our new national strategy and we hope you have received emails and seen details of this.
Under the strapline Skills for Life our vision is as below:
By 2023 we will have prepared more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme.
We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.
For more information click here to take you to our plan.
Alongside the release of the new strategy, the Scout brand has been updated and more details can be found here. The brand centre has been updated and over the coming months expect to see the new brand work its way through websites and stationary. All GSLs should have received the brand activation guide which can be accessed here.
St George’s Day
Thank you for all your feedback on St. George’s Day and our survey. The overwhelming feedback is for an all section full District event to mark St George’s Day but as an activity day rather than church service although still including renewal of promises.
So we need someone to volunteer to take on the mantle of leading the organisation of this with support from the both of us as well as a small team to support. Do let us know how you can help.
Our last few blogs have referred to the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and signposted you towards the toolkit material published by the Scout Association. We’re now very close to the effective date and all Groups through their Executive Committees should have ensured they have addressed the requirements. Please raise with your Executive Committees if you are not sure.
What’s going on?
We both, along with our District Youth Commissioner Tom Roberts, attended the South West Region Scout Summit last Saturday at Taunton where we heard from our Regional Commissioner Hamish as well as others including the Chief Commissioner for England, Alex. The theme was preparing us to support the strategy so that we can extend our reach as a charity to more young people as we prepare them with #skillsforlife. More to follow!
We are seeing an increasing number of activity notifications which is great – keep them coming – a few of the recent ones are below. Both of us would love to try and come along and say hello at some of these – just let us know!
- 10th Chippenham Troop Camp
- Colerne Cubs Water Camp
- Sherston Group Camp
- Crudwell Survival Weekend
- Corsham Scouts Climbing Camp
- Colerne Beavers sleepover
Don’t forget to keep an eye on the website for key dates and also sign up for mailing lists to get more details of events.
